Default Apple Getting Ready to Stop Producing Non-retina MacBook Pros

Apple currently offers two options for MacBook Pro customers: a MacBook Pro with retina display, which is significantly thinner and doesn't feature a CD/DVD drive, and a MacBook Pro without a retina display, which is significantly thicker and does feature a CD/DVD drive.

According to a report from Digitimes Wednesday morning, Apple is getting ready to end production of the non-retina display version of the MacBook Pro. Instead, the company will be selling the MacBook Pro with retina display exclusively:

Apple is expected to stop production of the 13-inch MacBook Pro in the second half of 2014 and will replace the product line with thinner models equipped with a Retina display.
The non-retina display MacBook Pro offered a slightly more cost effective way for someone to get their hands on a Mac, but with the price of the MacBook Pro with retina display coming down, Apple can now afford to make it the company's exclusive professional laptop.

For most, this is expected, as Apple moves from older technology to the newer with the retina display, solid state storage, and thinner design. On the other hand, those that require a CD/DVD drive won't be as thrilled, as they will now have to invest even more money in an external CD/DVD drive.

Will you be sad to see the lower-end MacBook Pro go?

Apple implemented this awhile ago. I'm sad that they're doing this, I think they should keep both models or at least the regular MBP 15"!

Apple pricing usually remains the same.

The price of the old model becomes the price of the new base model, typically.

CD drive is thirty bucks, which is a tax on being stuck in the 20th century. It's time to move on. Digitize your library and throw out the discs, should have done this years ago. I haven't used a CD drive since 2010, to install Adobe Photoshop. Now they don't even make CD's of photoshop. It's over.
