Default Apple CFO to Retire This Fall

One of Apple's most well-known and respected executives is planning to retire this September. On Tuesday, word came that longtime Apple CFO Peter Oppenheimer plans to leave the iDevice maker at the end of summer, presumably as investors and market watchers turn their attention to new product releases.

Peter Oppenheimer, who has spent nearly two decades with Apple, is widely credited for the prudent and proactive stewardship of Apple's finances over the critical expanse of time in which Apple rebounded to become one of the corporate giants of this new century.

"Peter has served as our CFO for the past decade as Apple's annual revenue grew from $8 billion to $171 billion and our global footprint expanded dramatically," Apple CEO Tim Cook announced this morning. "His guidance, leadership and expertise have been instrumental to Apple's success, not only as our CFO but also in many areas beyond finance, as he frequently took on additional activities to assist across the company. His contributions and integrity as our CFO create a new benchmark for public company CFOs."

Apple has already confirmed that it will promote from within to replace Oppenheimer. Luca Maestri, Apple's current vice president of Finance and corporate controller, will take the big seat following the outgoing CFO's retirement.

HA! Every time one of these big wigs tries to leave Apple, Apple throws them tens of millions to stay with the company. Then they leave eventually anyway. Will this one be the same? I'll be Luca hopes so haha.
