Default Meta Announces New Premium Smart Watch Lineup

Meta, formerly known as MetaWatch, has recently announced its next-gen iPhone-connected, wrist-worn devices, set to launch this spring with an all-new look and premium design from the brains behind Vertu luxury electronics. The newly announced products will be on display at this week’s Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Nevada, though the new smart watches won’t go on sale until later this year at Best Buy and other retail partners. The “premium” smart watches were created by fame designer Frank Nuovo of Nokia and Vertu.

As part of the shift in its branding, Meta is now focusing on what it calls “beautiful, premium smart watches.” Pricing for the new products hasn’t been announced but the “premium” distinction may signal the devices may cost more than the company’s previous lineup, which currently tops out at $200 for the “Frame” model.

According to Meta Chief Executive Bill Gieser:

This is the official start of our new brand evolution to Meta. The Meta brand expresses a blend of modern and classic style while integrating technology as a means to enhance the human side of your digital life.
The company’s new slogan, “The Art of the Glance,” focuses on the fact that its smart watches are widget-driven, allowing users to quickly glance at their wrist to view information beyond the current time, with local weather, sports scores, upcoming calendar entries and more capable of being displayed simultaneously. In the new design, the pivot points that hold the band in place on the watch are located further inward, toward the center of the display. Meta officials say that the new design change allows for a more comfortable fit on the wrist. Nuovo had the following to say regarding the matter:

The new META line provides a visibly unique, classically influenced style, which is inspired and driven by our theme: 'Art of the Glance.’ It's a perfect solution for customers personal fashion sense and a desired improvement to their digital mobile experience.
As of right now, no tech specs were provided but images appear to show an improved display on the new models. We’ll have to see how the Meta watches compare when paired against some of its competitors such as Pebble.

They just all seem to be lacking something in their design. I'm not sure if it's just an infancy stage right now, but they all just have no "sex-appeal" yet. Like the idea of being more like **** Tracy, though.

Oh yeah? Well, I was into smart watches *before* it was cool (2007's Sony Ericsson MBW-150).

Really? I've been waiting for a decent one to be released for at least a year now. I would absolutely love one (that doesn't suck like all the ones in the market today do).

Something that can access Siri, work as its own media player, take photos, use GPS/maps (including quickly dropping pins) and, of course, tell time at a glance would be quite nice.

I feel like the technology and consumer demand are there; but unfortunately, when the vast majority of consumer tech companies are tech giants, these things take quite a while for enough big wigs to agree upon before releasing.
