Default Apple TV 2 Goes Untethered for 5.3

There appears to be some good news for Apple TV 2 owners who havenít yet updated to version 6.0 yet. FireCore recently updated its Seas0nPass utility to apply an untethered jailbreak to Apple TVs that are still running firmware version 5.4, which is essentially equivalent to iOS 6.1.4.

As some of you may already know, the tool has for a long time offered a tethered jailbreak to the 5.3 software. Thanks to recent developments in the jailbreak community, itís now capable of an untethered hack, which means restarts and power ups/downs should be much easier going forward.

Team FireCore made the following announcement:

Today weíre excited to announce the release of new versions of aTV Flash (black) and Seas0nPass that allow for an untethered jailbreak of Apple TV 5.3 (ATV2 only). Big thanks goes out to @iH8sn0w, @winocm, and @SquiffyPwn for their help with the new version of Seas0nPass. Additionally, there has been some encouraging progress made on Apple TV 6.0+ thanks to our friends @evad3rs and @nitoTV, and we hope to have more news available soon.
The new version of Seas0nPass is 2.4 and the change log for this version can be found below:

    Whatís new in 2.4?

    - Added support for untethered Apple TV 5.3
    - Improved reliability of installation process
    - Improved diagnostic reporting
    - Other various fixes and improvements
For those of you who may have updated to version of 6.0 or later, today is your lucky day. It looks like Apple is still signing version 5.3 so you could grab the downloads and install it manually in iTunes by using Control/Alt + Restore.

One thing to note here is that this is for the second-generation Apple TV only. The third-gen set-top box has not been jailbroken yet. Those of you who have an Apple TV 2 can download the latest version of Seas0nPass from the companyís website (just hit the source link below).

Outstanding! So, I can upgrade from 5:2 to 5.3 and jailbreak with seas0npass?! That is great! I've been having trouble with my ATV 2 but was afraid to lose my jailbreak by updating.

Latest ATV black flash 2.4.6 still cannot save firmware signature of iOS 5.3 even though Apple is still signing it. Hope they do something about it.

Ifaith 1.5.9 is written for up to 6.1.3 . I use it to save 6.1.4 but not sure if it going to be legit upon stitching ipsw.

OR is it Cydia server not accepting 6.1.4 apt ticket for Apple TV even though I push this blob to Cydia.

I don't care for a jailbroken ATV; I'm happy w/ just a regular one. I'd rather sell the one and get two more in its place!

Been waiting for this for awhile now. I was getting tired of having to reboot / rejailbreak my AppleTV after it froze.

Will the devs ever try to figure out a jailbreak for ATV3 or IS IT too difficult to accomplish?

Can someone please explain what does a jailbroken apple TV does? I mean which features do you gain by jailbreaking it?

Hello fellow modmyi user, a quick google search will give you all the information you will ever need on this subject.

The part number for the 2 that I have is MC572LL/A. This is in the settings > general > about screen. Also, in that same screen, if your tv supports 1080p and your Apple TV says 720, then you have a 2 since the 2 does not support 1080p, only the 3 does.

Don't need a jailbroken Apple TV. Just download movie box on your idevice and stream it to Apple TV. Don't even watch tv no more now I've got this

ATV3 is Apples favorite iDevice as its the only iDevice that isn't jailbroken.
I'm surprised Apple done do more with it because it cant be jailbroken.

I think the devs need to stop working on useless jailbreaks and find a way to jailbreak the ATV3. When everyone is on IOS7.0.4 there is no longer a need to jailbreak 6.1.3/4 so why bother with it? What a waste of effort. You cant restore to 6.1.3/4 so its a total useless jailbreak.

I know I could google this but since most of you here know what you are talking about. Why should I jailbreak my at2? What do I get out of it?

You can install XBMC and stream your video library to your home theater. It also allows for Bluetooth keyboard hookup among other things. It's the reason I got the Apple TV.

You're not restricted to just having iTunes as your 'source' when it's jailbroken. Any media (VOB, avi, xvid, etc) you have can be streamed since you can choose alternate locations on your computer to have the ATV read.

It also opens up other channels that the ATV doesn't support, yet.

Aside from that, it's just customizations like Weather on the Homescreen.

How easy is it to apply the new untethered jb?? I have a teathered jb right now on 5.2 I think and had someone else do all the jb and loading all the apps and stuff. Guess my question is that is it as easy as jb an iphone which I can do myself or is it a little more complicated which is why I had someone do my atv2 in the first place

New question sorry!! It looks like it is fairly easy to actually jb the device. It was just the adding of all the apps that was hard for me. My atv2 already is jb and I am wondering if I re jb it with the new untethered version will I lose all apps from previous jb
