Default Mozilla Launches Firefox Version 26

Firefox has publicly been updated to version 26 with new features and improvements for Mac, Windows, and Linux users.

One of the most notable changes in the update is the new ‘Click to Play’ feature for Java plugins. Now, when a Java plugin is found on a Web page, the user will need to click on the plugin to initiate it. This will enhance security for users that don’t want rogue Java plugins running without their permission, and also help improve the application's memory usage. The password manager in Firefox will also now support script-generated passwords.

Outside of the user’s realm of knowledge, the update also adds a number of improvements for developers including improvements to the social API, and improvements to support for CSS and HTML5. Multiple bug fixes and security improvements have been added to the application in this update as well.

There is a known issue in the update where moving Firefox to the background while playing a flash video, such as on YouTube, and then bringing Firefox back to the foreground could cause Firefox to freeze up. Mozilla is aware of the issue and is working on a fix.

You can view the full changelog for Firefox 26 at this link.

Existing users of Firefox can grab the update by navigating to the About menu, or by using the download links below:

I use Firefox on my iMac which I consider being iSomething.

Also I am interested in seeing Firefox updates from the perspective of a Mac-user, since OS X is the only plattform where Firefox does't support H.264 (on Windows and Linux it does), so keep the news coming :-)

"Known issue"? Then I'll wait for 26.1.
