Default Oracle CEO Larry Ellison Shares Thoughts on His Bleak Outlook of Apple

In a recent interview with Charlie Rose which is set to air on Tuesday, Larry Ellison, CEO of Oracle, gave a bleak outlook for Apple’s future when asked how the Cupertino California company will fare without his close friend Steve Jobs around to lead the charge. A short snippet of the “This Morning” segment was recently released on CBS, showing that Ellison alluded to an anticipated dark time for the Cupertino California company.

Rose asked Ellison to share his thoughts on what Apple will become without Jobs and Ellison simply responded with a “we already know.” He continued by explaining the following:

We saw — we conducted the experiment. I mean, it's been done. We saw Apple with Steve Jobs. We saw Apple without Steve Jobs. We saw Apple with Steve Jobs. Now, we're gonna see Apple without Steve Jobs.
What Ellison is describing is that each time Apple had to experience time without Jobs, the company entered a low point in their business. To be more specific, he’s referring to Apple’s founding in 1976, then his ousting by John Sculley in 1985, followed by his return in 1997 and finally his death in 2011. When asked about what he felt enabled jobs besides his love and dedication to Apple, Ellison said the following:

He was, he was brilliant. I mean, he was our Edison. He was our Picasso. He was an incredible inventor.
How do you feel about Apple and its future without Jobs?

I think that times have changed and the view on Apple this time around is much different than the last time. Jobs wasn't ousted this time. He knew who to trust to continue Apple's future enough that most of his ideas and innovations would continue, not be excluded. He left Apple on the best terms anyone could have imagined .. he was, is, and will always be, the innovative mind behind Apple. Cook is doing well enough to keep up.

When Jobs grew and nurtured success between 85 to 97 with NeXt and Pixar/Disney, investors and money movers saw Apple's choice to oust Jobs as a huge weakness and Apple nearly tanked. This time around, even after Jobs death, Apple has seen enormous growth and huge returns. I just think its because its still the company Jobs left it to be.

To me, your comment, Hillefied, makes more sense than whatever Ellison is talking about in that interview.

Any add-on that tries to install the malicious "ask toolbar" sucks eggs. So screw java. But the drift is right- look at apple pre 1997: you had all kinds of crappy boxes, and no continuity. Then, suddenly there was this cool iMac. Then those little cubes, then those grey G4 towers. The systems were no longer in the ugliest boxes imaginable, they had a great style.

But then apple made its biggest mishap: switching to crappy intel processors. Wrong. I never have had a Motorola G4 or 5 do the intel "white-out". Granted, the newest macs don't do that as much. I do like boot camp though.

But iPhones were the first, even the original ones were great and still useful. So to hell with galaxies.

The 4S and 5 devices both show that without Steve Jobs it's not about Quality it's only about Profit, so disappointed in last 2 new iPhone models, as I read more articles I'm not the only one who feels this way, hopefully apple can pull out of this downward slide

We have all seen what Ellison describes. I too feel times have changed. Steve had time to appoint his successor and he also had time to be the visionary we all know him to be. I feel the best of Apple is yet to be seen. While we all want the new new like yesterday, I feel our patience will pay off in the end. While Apple hasn't given us anything revolutionary in the last 365 days, neither has any other hard ware company. The field is even and the best team will win the race.

Apple is in a predicament where Ive should be running the entire company but he is needed elsewhere and also wants a life. Ive is Steve Jobs reincarnated, but we can't have him as CEO.

Did you ever use the first iphone? I got one in the cupboard in its box as its less useful than a brick these days.
When it came out any phone in the previous 5 years was better. You couldn't video chat, you couldn't send MMS, you couldn't record video, you couldn't do much with it. There was no App Store, there wasn't many apps, it was all Jailbreak apps that made it work. If it wasn't for jailbreaking and Saurik there wouldn't be an iPhone 5 now as it was a piece of crap and every update to IOS added features that jailbreak devs created.
ALL the updated IOS features were either from Cydia or Android. There was NOTHING original from Apple. The only thing close was Siri BUT Siri was owned by another company that Apple brought so it wasn't really Apples idea it was someone elses that they paid for.
I have a Windows Mobile 5 phone, a iMate JasJam that did 100x more than an iPhone could. It did more than an iPhone 3G and 3GS could do. When the 3GS came out the JasJam was over 5 years old and it was still a better phone.

Now compare the Galaxy S4 to the iPhone 5 and its no competition, the S4 wins as its such a better device. Apple are always behind and I cant see it coming back from the hole it made for itself. The only people getting iPhones these days are fanboys as its not the better device anymore. It never really was a better device it was just pushed more, there was more advertising so everyone knew about it. They flooded everything with advertising and drowned out the competition so nobody heard of the Samsung Galaxy phones. I bet 90% of new buyers of the Galaxy S4 are old iPhone owners that just dont like being locked out of your own device and wanted the freedom that Apple refuses to give and Android is so proud of giving.

I do miss some apps from IOS but having the freedom and openness of an Android is keeping me away from IOS. Most apps on IOS are also coming out on Android so the hold the apps had is no longer there. I'm just waiting for those few left over apps get ported to Android then I can finally delete iTunes as thats the buggiest application I have in Windows. Whenever I have a crash or Windows locks up or just about any problem it always points to iTunes.
If Apple are going to keep their phones locked up tight and they arn't going to fix their software then why stay with locked up buggy crap.

So as he said "we've seen Apple without Jobs" and it went downhill then there is now nothing thats going to make it better so its going to flop. GOOD. I've always hated Apple as a company and the stupid way they do things and its all coming back to kick then in the butt.

Haters going to hate, I know that but the truth hurts doesn't it.

I've said MANY times, the iPhone would be the best phone ever if Apple didn't release it. (I might have that as my signature as I always say it)

What you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

The 4S and 5 offered many new advances compared to previous models, so I'm not sure why you feel that they had nothing to offer. I use my 4S for taking awesome photos that previous models couldn't capture as well. Full HD video capture for those goofy moments with my daughter that I can share with everyone who missed out. Countless apps that run smoothly and seamlessly.

Not only that, the same model refresh that Apple has done since Jobs died is the same as they did long before he passed. I'm not sure what you expect out of your iDevice, but its a damn sight better than anything from as little as five years ago. Technology will never meet our imaginative expectations. No holograms for you anytime soon

    What a completely worthless response.

Referring to the part about jailbreaking. I don't think most people who jailbreak realize how little jailbroken ios devices are out there. It's probably <1% of all apple devices. So to say that the iphone wouldn't be around without jailbreaking is an insane statement.

You realize that Steve Jobs was alive when they launched the 4s right? I would bet my life that he had massive rolls in creating the 4s and the 5.

The number actually fluctuates somewhere between 5%-12% I think Saurik said once depending on the availability of a jailbreak. Still a relatively low number so still proves the point you were making.

lol, only apple hasn't given anything new going all the way back to 2010 if you exclude the iPad mini. the problem with apple is that they choose to give you tiny bits and pieces--just enough to make you feel envious and run out and upgrade your device. Samsung on the other hand throws the world at you. case and point., look at the iPhone 4 vs the 4S compared to the leap from the Galaxy S2 to the S3. Samsung created a whole new category of devices with its phablet., other companies have outed smart watches (which I think is pretty lame) HP has some badass touch screen laptops., Asus gave us the tablet laptop hybrid, we have netbooks (lame) Smart TVs mobile devices with 720p and 1080p, insane ppi (an astounding 468 on my HTC One) our mobile phones (except iPhones) began to focus on sound so we've gone from 5.1 surround sound to 7.1 On a mobile device !! Google brought us glasses and Samsung should be the first to market with a device with a flexible display.

apple will no longer give you anything new because they don't have to.

their strength is in their brand and they are very good at selling you the same device over and over (iPhone 4, 4S, 5) mini with no retina so they can sell you mini with retina the following year.

And the "leap" from the S3 to S4? About half an inch and some gimmicky extras. I guess Samsung learned from the best lol. Gotta admit the HTC One is sexy though.

apple has gone downhill and it doesnt look good. I upgraded from the iphone 4 to the 5 in may and Im not impressed. The only thing thats better is its faster and lighter. It doesnt have any new useful features really.

Like someone said above, apple is the master at giving you a tiny bit to make you buy then releases the same thing with features the first version should have had already to make you keep buying. Its turning me off and making me consider switching next time around.
