Default Apple's Power Adapter Takeback Program Extended Beyond U.S. and China

Just last week, Apple announced a new power adapter take-back program to prevent safety problems with third-party power adapters that have been linked to two electrocution deaths (1), (2) in China.

The program allows someone to bring in a potentially counterfeit power adapter, along with the device that they're charging it with, to any Apple Store in China or the United States and the same person could then purchase an Apple-approved power adapter for just $10 rather than the usual $19. The program is set to end on October 18th.

As 9to5Mac reports, Apple has updated their power adapter take-back program Web page to make it so residents in Australia, France, Germany, Japan, and the United Kingdom will soon also be able to take part in the same program.

Currently, the program is live in China already as of August 9th, and will be kicking off in the United States on August 16th; residents of these newly added countries will join the timing of the United States on August 16th according to the Web site.

With the addition of these countries to the new program, Apple shows that they are ready to step up their support and will hopefully get even more of these dangerous power adapters off the streets.
