    put it in dfu mode
How To: Enter DFU Restore Mode - ModMyi - Wiki

download a ipod touch 2g 3.1.2 ipsw firmware in google.
    restore to that in itunes
and then jailbreak with blackra1n (blackweather)

I don't know if you guys just decide not to read and pretend like you know it all, but I can't connect to iTunes...

Yeah, but dfu makes it so itunes can see it. duh. Don't be a jerk or those of us who know what to do won't help you.

it won't recognize it at first but once it enters you can restore

Right now I have 2.2.1 installed, what should I do if I want to jailbreak it? I'm on a 2g iPod touch...

Note It's working perfectly fine as of now.

But I can't update my iPod... Even when I did it legit to 3.1.3 it didn't work....

I don't have 3.1.2 I thought I was going to get it, but my ipod sucks and doesn't install new updates...

Have you tried shift+restore onto a 3.x firmware?

By "won't update" do you get an error in iTunes?
