Default Just a bit confused, but not so new at this.
Ok...So im familiar with this jailbreaking process. I've dont multiple versions of iphones, but never ipod touches. I was unfimiliar with the new update (3.0). I was left to think you actually had to purchase it, until I ran across it on here. Thank you once again. Now the problem that im having is with redsn0w.. After finally getting the firmware situation taken care of, I went through the whole redsn0w process. Twice in fact. And the ipod still appears to not be jailbroken. There is no cydia, or icy for that matter. Any suggestions? I have a 1st generation 8gb ipod with 3.0 fw. Any help is mighty appreciated.

Well, did you select the options on Redsn0w? What version of Redsn0w are you using? Are you sure you're clicking everything correctly when you are going through the process?

This is a common error when jailbreaking with redsn0w.

*Make sure you are running the newest version of redsn0w.

*Make Sure Your Ipod Touch IS POWERED OFF Before You Start Jailbreak.
(Not DFU Mode Just Plain OFF)

red snow 0.8, and the 3.0 go together, pretty much, a new version of red snow will be coming out to jailbreak the 3.1 firmware soon.

google "Red Snow 0.8 Download" and delete the old version of it.

Next, download the iPod touch 3.0 firmware (NOT THE 3.1.1!!!) from here http://www.felixbruns.de/iPod/firmware/ and put it on your desktop,

Next, plug in the iPod into your computer, and turn it off (the ipod). (TURN OFF ITUNES OR ELSE IT WONT WORK)

    Select Install Cydia (NOT ICY)

Next, follow the instructions on the screen to put it into DFU mode.

A few mintues later, Cydia app will be on your iPod

    Enjoy
