Once you put your phone in DFU and plugged it in iTunes...iTunes prompts the Recovery Mode. Just ignore it. Youre ok..just continue on with the restore process.

Try to restore to legit firmware by going into recovery mode. (phone on, home sleep, wait to turn back on, just home).
So it's different than dfu. You should have a picture of the iTunes cable on it.

have your iPod/iPhone on (doesn't matter which). Hold the home and power button until it turns off. Keep holding until it turns back on. Then let go of power and keep holding home until an icon pops up on your iPod. Then iTunes should come up with a screen saying it has to restore. Click restore and let it work. Then we shall move on to the next step once you tell me that works.

If you are trying to jailbreak 1.1.5, follow this. If you are trying to jailbreak 2.x, then skip this section and go down below.

1.1.5 jailbreak: open winpwn(windows) quickpwn or pwnagetool (mac). Then follow the instructions there.if you downloaded the firmware thru itunes and youcant find it when you're browsing for your legit .ipsw, then do this. Open my computer. Go to tools>folder options then find 'hide hidden folders' in that list and uncheck it. Then, when you are browsing for you'r legitimate 1.1.5 custum .ipsw follow this path
    C:/documents and settings/<your username here>/application data/apple computer/iTunes/iPod software updates
Find the one that has 1.1.5 in it, and use that one.

    For pwning 2.x:
*wink* you can download to 2.0.2 firmware somewhere off of the Internet. Not eligible to say where. Once you do that, go into restore mode, shift+click on restore (apple+click ok a mac) and select that 2.0.2 .ipsw file. Once you do that, follow the steps above, except substituting 2.0.2 wherever there's a 1.1.5. Wow I just typed all of that on my iPod.

Ok this is what you have to do.

    1. Download the 2.02 .ipsw file from somewhere on the internet (use google)
    2. Put you iPod in restore mode
    3. Once that is done, go into iTunes, shift+click on restore (apple plus click on macs)
    4. Then select the .ipsw file that you just downloaded off the internet.
    5. then it should update your firmware to 2.0.2 for free.
    6. Then follow my 2.0.2 pwning guide here. Just scroll down until you find it.

We need more threads like this -- one person needs help, another person supplies help, and no smart-arsed comments in between. Well done, folks.
