Also, it's most likely that Apple is monitoring this thread. Creepy.

Come on Apple, I have given you thousands in business, just let me crack open my iTouch.

there's no iron fist here, it's apple defending its intellectual property. it is ILLEGAL to make their copyrighted code publicly available for download.

Yeah I understand this... however, the swiftness by which they took action is surprising.. they are really working to keep this device locked.

As soon as I saw the articles on engadget earlier this afternoon I immediately thought they have to be related. Honestly, I think back when the Roker phone came out with iTunes Apple start production of the whole iPhone which naturally progressed the iPod line to the IPT. All with the goal of wider penetration of OS X variants. I think it's going to become even more apparent in the Apple line that Apple accessories (iPods, iPhone, etc...) "work best with other Apple products" in an effort to coerce casual Apple nuts to full blown OS X. Think about it, they've worked hard on the whole Boot Camp/Windows dual boot idea and are making the reasons to purchase a computer running OS X even greater.

It is disappointing that Apple is hell-bent on locking the IPT though. The capabilities and potential it has are literally limitless. I love my IPT so far but having a few things like a note app, email perhaps and a damn add calendar feature would be nice. The rational behind having an add contact feature and not an add calendar appointment is beyond me...
