Default Buying an iTouch - need advice
I might be getting an iTouch tomorrow as a gift and I need to decide fast if its the right thing. It would probably be the minimum size 8gig one.

I want it as a tech plaything to see what I can do with it as a business/productivity tool to help organize my business and someones else's company that I do work for. I already have an iPod that serves as my music player, and I have no need at this point for another phone. I would run it off my wifi network to exchange info with my desktop and some of my web sites.

I'm a software developer - so I might down the road get a used Mac and develop apps.

Is the 8 gig adequate for handling apps and do I only need additional storage for music and videos?

If you are not going to store music on it, then you will be fine

Yeah 8gigs is plenty if your not going down the video/music road.

However, once you get it you'll find yourself wanting to use it for more, and wishing you had bought a bigger one

Yeah I know - its hard making a decision - with some other things that are going on in what I'm doing it could be in a month I might find I need an iPhone. But there is no way I'm spending money on that unless I get a consulting contract and get the first pay check - and that would be 3 months away. If that happens the iTouch is still good - cause I can use it for testing communication between the 2 devices.

Anyway its better to save the money to buy the Mac that I would need for developing- probably that Mac box thing that can run off an existing monitor = I already have 3 monitors in front of me - no space for another.

You're a software developer and you can't determine how much space would be sufficient? To answer your question 8 gigs is plenty.

I have no idea what the restrictions are on an iTouch - why should i know whether 8gigs is enough - we live in an age of software bloat. I recycled some 40gig drives today as being too small. A few years ago I spend $1500 to buy a 2 gig SCSI drive that was needed for video editing. No normal person needed 2gig drives at that time. Now people think that less than 160gig drives on a netbook is low. Its all relative.

Word of advice, don't call it an "iTouch"
These folks might be nice right now, but people will bash your head in if you do.

LOL. I was surprised nobody said anything. I was opening the thread half expecting it to be full of "THERE'S NO SUCH THING AS AN iTOUCH!!!!"

LOL - that might explain why searches for iTouch don't seem to work too well for me

LOL. Refer to it as an "iPod Touch" a "Touch" or an "iPod" and not as "iTouch" just like you wouldn't refer to an "iPod Classic" or an "iPod Nano" as "iClassic" or "iNano"
