The folder backgrounds in iOS 8 have a blur when opened. The application icons that are inside of the folder reside above the blurred layer for a neat little visual effect that Apple thought everyone would love; but that isn't the case, so the jailbreak community now has a cure for those that aren't in love with the default effects.

Dubbed FolderBlur by iOS developer Lizynz, this new free tweak lets you modify the blur effect of the folder backgrounds in iOS 8, or you can even do away with them completely, as shown above.

FolderBlur adds a preferences pane to the Settings application where you can easily choose the blur settings that you want, whether that is to leave them stock, or to change them to something that you find more visually appealing:

The twelve different blur effects that you can choose from include:

  • Transparent
  • Milk glass - opaque
  • Default
  • Milk glass - lass opaque
  • Milk glass - bit clear
  • Milk glass - clearer
  • Milk glass - clear
  • Dark milk glass - opaque
  • Dark milk glass - bit less opaque
  • Blurried - most blurry
  • Blurried - in between
  • Blurried - clearer

Changing between effects is immediate and doesn't even require a respring to take effect. The changes only affect the folder background and not the actual folder icon on the Home Screen, so keep this in mind.

If you're interested in giving FolderBlur a try, you will find it in Cydia's BigBoss repository free of charge right now. The tweak requires iOS 8 to be installed and used.
