For those of you that hate the App Switcher in iOS 8 and want something quicker and easier to use for getting to the applications you have recently used, there is a new jailbreak tweak in town that might appeal to you.

Dubbed Return, this new jailbreak tweak by iOS developer william_vab adds a list of recently-used applications to the empty space in Control Center for iOS 8, as shown above.

The tweak, by default, shows you up to four of your recently-used applications in this interface. You can tap on any of the shortcuts to open the application you want, or you can tap on the "x" button to reveal a "Clear" button that is used to clear out the recently-used applications tray. Note: this doesn't kill the applications from the App Switcher.

Return adds a preferences pane to the Settings application where you can configure its style and functionality the way you like:

Your options here include:

  • Enabling or disabling the tweak's feature and functionality on demand
  • Hiding or showing the application icon labels in the interface
  • Saving the recently-used application icon list even after a respring
  • Enabling or disabling card view over application icon view
  • Configuring the scrolling direction for seeing more of your recently-used applications
  • Configuring the number of application icons that are shown at once
  • Configuring the total number of rows of application icons
  • Configuring the corner radius of the Return interface
  • Configuring the animation duration of the Return interface

For the most part, the tweak feels redundant if you use the App Switcher in iOS 8 to switch between applications, but if you have the App Switcher disabled because you don't like it, then Return is something that could be used to replace its App-switching functionality pretty well. It also makes good use of the empty space above Control Center.

If you're interested in giving Return a try, it's available in Cydia's ModMyi repository right now for 99.
