Default 'Discret' Offers Quick Toggleable Notification Privacy On Demand

Notifications that you get on the Lock Screen or in Notification Center always show a preview of the content of the message. Many see this as an invasion of privacy and wish there was some way to still get notified that there's a notification for your applications without compromising the security of the content of the notification.

A new jailbreak tweak called Discret by iOS developer Suhaib Alfaqeeh is now available in Cydia that gives you improved notification privacy on the Lock Screen and in Notification Center.

The tweak works around the user better than Apple's built-in function for the Messages application under the Settings > Notifications > Messages > Show Previews option because rather than forcing the user to go through a labyrinth of settings to find the option, Discret is toggled on or off very easily with the use of an Activator action.

This way, if you're cozy at home and don't need the extra security, you can still enjoy reading notification previews on the Lock Screen or from Notification Center, but when you're ready to go out and fear someone looking at your Lock Screen or Notification Center when you're not looking, you can toggle the tweak on and have instant privacy.

Moreover, Apple's own privacy option from Settings > Notifications > Messages > Show Previews only applies to a select few applications on iOS, while Discret applies to every single notification on your iOS device that can send you push notifications.

Discret adds a preferences pane to the Settings application where you can configure the Activator action that you want to use:

Once configured, you can invoke the Activator action to bring up the following interface:

The interface shows you whether Discret has been turned on or off, and allows you to choose to enable Discret right now, or to enable it later. You have to tap on the "Enable Changes" option to save your setting (your device will respring).

Discret is a free download from the Cydia Store, but the tweak comes with an activation form in the Settings application where you can buy your license to use the tweak for $1.99. The tweak requires Activator to be used and it's worth noting that the tweak won't automatically install Activator for you at the time of installation, so you'll have to install it manually if you don't already have it.

If you're interested in giving Discret a try, it's available to download from Cydia's BigBoss repository right now!

Show Previews also applies to Photos, Mail, WhatsApp, etc. to name a few.
