Default 'Mr Jump' Jumps to the Top of the App Store's Free Charts With 5m Downloads in 4 Days

The days of Flappy Bird may be over, for now, but another game is grabbing a lot of App Store hype after just a few days of being available in the iOS App Store.

Mr Jump by 1Button has jumped all the way to the top of the iOS App Store's free apps section in just four days with more than 5 million individual downloads since its initial launch, as TechCrunch reports. Today is the game's fifth day of availability and it continues to grow in popularity while maintaining a 4.5 out of 5 star rating in the App Store by the happy players who have reviewed the game.

The game is very addicting, it really is.

Although good games typically get discovered by players quickly in the App Store thanks to the power of Internet sharing and blogging, some of the game's success can be attributed to Apple, which has placed a colorful front-page banner in the iOS App Store that basically says, "Hey iOS user! This is Mr Jump! Download it and try it!" and this helps to make people want to try it:

Mr Jump is a free download in the App Store and does offer in-app purchases to remove the ads, however the ads do not pop up all the time and this makes for a less-obtrusive experience to players. There is no doubt though that plenty of players have bought out the ads to make the game feel more personal and this has raked in a good amount of revenue for the developers of Mr Jump.

What makes Mr Jump so addicting is the game play and the way it's presented to the player. In the game, you are running across a platform with various obstacles and spaces between the platforms. You have to jump over obstacles, such as spikes, and jump over gaps in the platforms to prevent falling to your death. When you land on a spike or fall to your death, it's game over because you don't get any extra lives.

The way that the game is presented is done in various "levels" where a player can earn a percentage of completion depending on how far they get in a particular level without dying. Because we as humans want to feel like we've completed something, and because we naturally love competition, we just can't put the game down until we see that "100%." So we'll keep trying and trying until we can say we've earned our way to the top.

You can check out the game play in the video below:

So if you're the type to try something out because everyone else is doing it, then you can follow this App Store link to give Mr Jump a try absolutely free off cost; but if you feel the need to avoid the hype, we totally understand.
