For those of you that want a dead simple way to silence those alarms and incoming phone calls without having to use the ringer/silent switch (especially if you have a big bulky case on that makes that a pain), a new free jailbreak tweak called Sol by iOS developer dantesieg is now available to help!

With this tweak installed, you can silence an incoming phone call ringer, or an alarm sound by just placing your iPhone upside-down (screen-side down on a table). The tweak accomplishes this by making use of the proximity sensor at the top front of the device near the front-facing speaker. When a surface is detected, the tweak silences all sounds; when a surface is not detected, the tweak doesn't affect the sounds.

Sol adds a preferences pane to the Settings application where you can configure the tweak to your liking:

The options include enabling or disabling the tweak on demand, choosing the sensitivity of the proximity sensor to prevent false positives, and individually configuring the tweak for alarms or for phone calls (or both).

If you're interested in giving this free tweak a try, Sol is available right now in Cydia's BigBoss repository. An iPhone running iOS 8 is required to use this tweak; iPods and iPads are not compatible.
