Default How to Add Your Most Used & Favorite Apps to the App Switcher in iOS 8 for Quick Access

The App Switcher is a place in iOS where you can get to your recently-used applications. But jailbreak tweaks have, since the dawn of the iOS 4 days, proven that the App Switcher can be so much more if Apple were just willing to add the functionality in. Aaaanddddd... with iOS 8, they add favorite contacts to the App Switcher. Apple... just what were you thinking?

If you want to make the App Switcher more useful in a way that it suits using your applications, like it was intended to be used, then a new jailbreak tweak called Popular by iOS developer David Murray (Cykey) may be of interest to you. As shown above, this tweak will add two new lists to your App Switcher: one that shows your most-used applications, and another one that shows your favorite applications.

The tweak adds a preferences pane to the Settings application where you can enable or disable either of the two sections on demand, and configure them:

When configuring the most-used applications section, you can choose how many application icons are allowed to show up under this section. You'll also be able to see all of the statistics that the tweak keeps in the background so you can see how much you use specific applications. If you want to blacklist any applications from appearing here, there is a blacklist option that you can configure so that applications you blacklist never appear in the most-used section of this tweak in the App Switcher. A clear all data button is also included so you can start from scratch if you need to.

Under the favorites section, you can select the applications that you deem your "favorites" and those will appear in the App Switcher under the "favorites" section.

Other options this tweak gives you is the ability to hide or show the section labels and to hide or show the application icon names.

It seems to work alright for what it is, but every once in a while we notice some glitchiness of the placement of the application icons. A future update will hopefully add a little stability to this aspect, although tapping on the icons still launches the applications as expected, so this is something to keep in mind.

If you're interested in giving Popular a try, it's available in Cydia's BigBoss repository for 99. iOS 8 is required to install Popular. Check it out!

Just need to be able to add more than 4 items in the favorite setting and it would be awesome!
