Default Skype for iPhone Has Been Updated With Dialer Improvements, Notification Reliability

Microsoft has released an updated version of the Skype application for the iPhone on Monday. Version 5.10, the latest version, can now be downloaded from the iOS App Store.

The update brings with it a variety of improvements, although the most notable is having to do with the bringing back of URI support, which allows third-party application developers to tap into the power of Skype from other applications in iOS. Skype made this announcement on their blog Monday morning even though URL support is not included in the change log for today's update via the App Store.

Additional improvements in this update include improved reliability of notifications from chats. Every so often, sometimes you may have noticed that push notifications did not come through to your iOS device when you would get a message from someone. Skype is working to improve this and asks for your assistance in troubleshooting.

Lastly, Skype 5.10 for iPhone also improves on the dial pad by allowing you to save numbers that have been entered into the dial pad or that appear in the recent calls list. This will make sure that you don't have to remember phone numbers in the future and allows you to easily get back to them when you need them.

If you're an existing user of Skype for iPhone, then this update is waiting for you under the Updates tab in the App Store application. If you have automatic updates enabled on your iOS 8 device, then this update will be installed automatically for you. Alternatively, you can download the latest version of Skype for iPhone for free from this App Store link whether you're already a user or not.
