Default iPhone 6s May Keep the Same 8 Megapixel Sensor That Current iPhones Already Have

The upcoming iPhone 6s is rumored to keep the same 8 megapixel camera sensor that all current generation iPhones already have installed in them reports Taipei Times. The 8 megapixel camera sensor has been around since the iPhone 4s, although Apple has been tweaking the optics for clarity and color quality over time with each release.

By not upgrading the megapixels in the next camera, this carves in stone that images on the next-generation iPhone (whether it's called the iPhone 6s or not) will be about the same quality as those already being taken on current generation iPhones. The only things Apple really needs to tweak are the color vibrancy, clarity, and low-light performance in order to claim that they have improved the camera's functionality and performance.

As MacRumors notes, Apple is also throwing around the possibility of dual rear camera lenses, which would not only allow for 3-D photography, but also clearer pictures that help eliminate shadows and other imperfections in photographs. Both of the cameras would be of the 8 megapixel flavor.

Stay tuned for more iPhone 6s rumors and updates on ModMyi!

Lets be honest, Apple only needs to add enough Marketing fluff to a somewhat enhanced iPhone 6s to make it a major success. Some processor improvements, camera enhancements, and one killer feature and it's set to be a good release for them!

3D would be great, but without true stereoscopic 3D screen tech what's the point? I guess they could make a feature where you tilt the phone and it will animate between two pictures, like a virtual lenticular lens. That would be super-gimmicky for such an increase in cost.

To hell with 3D photography, give me 4K video and a higher megapixel so zooming doesn't look so ugly

If they make those things better, it's not just a "claim" to have imrpoved performance. It really is an improvement. Anyone with half a brain that has experience with digital cameras knows that the "emm pees" really play a minor role in actual photo quality outside of low light situations or giant prints, and in low light situations optical stabilization helps incrmenetaly more than bumping the MP count a little.

The proof is in Apple's marked improvements in image quality over the generations of phones despite sticking with the same 8MP. Also in the fact that Apple has proven to produce better quality photos than many higher MP camera phones. Bottom line: unless you're do a pro photo shoot or planning on printing some larger than 8x10 prints, an 8MP lense is about all you need. A bump would be nice, but certainly not necessary.

Not szure if you've been made aware of this, but these days you can actually offload your photos from your phone and view them on other devices, even 3D capable devices! Android users were touting 1080p video functionality of their phones long before they had 1080p screens.

the rest of the smartphone world is already going the 20mpxl route and stupid Apple is sticking with 8 megapixel. Everybody in the world is buying iPhones like there's no tomorrow, so why should apple give a hoot to inovate or have major upgrades.

A lot of sites have done picture comparisons of the iPhone camera with other top smartphones. The iPhone may not win them all, but it does hold its own. Generally speaking, while the megapixel count may not be up there, the overall photo quality certainly is.

I wouldn't mind another MP or two but I think 20MP is kinda pointless and its a waste of space. Remember the higher the MP the more disk space required for photographs and videos. Do I need a 20MP picture when I'm probably only going to print it up as a 5x7?

Megapixel count is useless, using this logic all cameras would be same quality with same megapixel, we know thats not true
