Default 'MoreThanSMS' Adds a Button to the iOS 8 Messages App for Making Calls

Have you ever just felt so lazy that you didn't even want to close out of the Messages application to go over to the Phone application to enter someone's phone number in the dialing pad? If so, then a new free jailbreak tweak called MoreThanSMS by iOS developer elias is now available for free in Cydia's BigBoss repository that will give you the ability to simply place phone calls right from the Messages application.

The tweak adds a new button to the top center of the Messages application in the navigation bar; it has a phone icon, as shown above. When you tap on it, you will be shown a dialing pad, as well as a text field in an alert box where you can either cancel the call, or initiate the call.

Since the tweak requires you to type in numbers manually, it's not as convenient as the Phone application where you have the choice to dial a number from the dialing pad or simply pick a contact that is stored in your iPhone. Fortunately though, if someone messages you a phone number to somewhere or someone you need to get in touch with, this can be a handy shortcut to quickly get in touch without ever leaving the application you're currently in.

One part of the tweak that really gets on our nerves, however, is that the icon in the navigation bar is huge and gaudy, but not only that, it doesn't appear to support the retina display because it's fuzzy. If the developer could scale it down some and make it nicer on the retina display, it would be much more visually appealing.

On the other hand, the tweak works exactly as it should. If you're interested in giving MoreThanSMS a try, it's available for free right now in Cydia's BigBoss repository. There are no options to configure as of yet, but the developer says that an upcoming version will have some settings that the user can configure.

    Name: MoreThanSMS
    Price: FREE
    Version: 1.0
    Requirements: iOS 8.0-8.1.2
Tested on: iPhone 5 running iOS 8.1.2
    Repo: BigBoss
    Developer: elias

Can't you just tap the name of the contact you're talking to then tap the call button if you want to call them?

    ......beware......
    Just your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man!

It's actually under Details but yes, you can. This is for whatever reason visible on the 'front page' of the SMS app. Looks more like a direct link to your number keyboard w/o going to the phone app.

Yes, but this tweak lets you dial in any number you want. Without it, you can only contact your contacts from the Messages application.

I'm not sure what you mean. There's no keyboard dialer in the App Switcher.

This tweak is just a shortcut and nothing more or less.
