Default Apple Looking to Get A9 Chips Produced by Samsung

Recent reports from Re/code are claiming that Apple will be turning to long time rival Samsung for manufacturing A9 chips for the Cupertino-based company’s next iPad and iPhone devices. Previously, there was a lot of talk over whether Apple would be asking Korean-based company Samsung or Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) for the project. Now however, it has been reported that Apple has put Samsung ahead of TSMC.

When Apple released their most recent iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, Samsung and TSMC were both in charge of producing the 20-nanometer A8 and A8X processors. Although both companies produced the chips, the bulk of it went to TSMC. Samsung definitely lucked out in being able to produce chips for Apple’s upcoming devices as sales has not been so hot for the company.

That's because Samsung holds a technological edge over TSMC when it comes to the latest manufacturing process. Samsung has managed to shrink the size of the transistors on its chips to 14 nanometers -- effectively packing more processing power into a smaller space and consuming less power. TSMC is still at 20 nanometers.
Not much is known about Apple’s upcoming devices and Samsung has also yet to confirm producing chips for the Cupertino-based company. However, Samsung ‘s semiconductor noted back in October of last year that their chip profits should be on the rise in the upcoming year.

It's a smart idea. Samsung makes good quality chips. Just don't let them look at the specs. Lol

It's a good thing Apple didn't tell Samsung about the 64 bit processor, otherwise Samsung would have came out with their own 64-bit processor the same year as Apple.

It's kind of funny people think they're mortal enemies, with all the lawsuits and stuff, but it's just business. Behind the scenes they are still shaking hands and making deals to benefit both companies.
