    Default Sales of Apple's iPhones Surpass Android Sales for the First Time Since 2012 in Q4 2014

    Sales of Apple’s iPhone overtook sales of Android devices by an ever so slight margin for the first time since 2012 according to the latest figures from the Kantar Worldpanel. Apple’s iPhone took a 47.7% sales share of the US smartphone market while Android ended up accounting for 47.6%. Coming in third place was Windows Phone which accounted for a mere 3.8%. Chief of research at Kantar Worldpanel ComTech, Carolina Milanesi, had the following to say regarding the matter:

    While the success of the iPhone 6 and 6Plus is unprecedented, this quarter’s performance also points to Apple having its strongest portfolio ever. With a range of devices available at different price points in both contract and pre-pay Apple was able to take advantage of a weaker Android offering at the premium end of the market.
    The folks over at Kantar also noted that the iPhone 6 was the bestselling smartphone in the United States and even helped the iPhone’s market share rise by 6.2% in Europe during the holiday quarter. By comparison, the Android OS share declined 3.8% overall in Europe with Italy being the only country who seemed to experience market share growth. Apple on the other hand ended up growing 2.2% to claim a 21.5% market share with the growth attributed to the launch of its latest iPhone lineup, the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.

    Apple CEO Tim Cook claimed that the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus ended up bringing more Android switchers and new customers than any models prior in the company’s earnings call just last week. The current-gen iPhone lineup ended up selling a record 74.5 million units during the holiday quarter with a 46% growth when compared to last year and Apple’s launch of the iPhone 5S and 5C. We’ll have to see how Apple does once Samsung releases its new Galaxy lineup.

    .... and all it took was a bigger screen.
    <Shakes head>

    Tried to tell them this four years ago - but their refusal to listen gifted Android four years of unopposed catch-up time.
    Still, it's been good for competition - since we now have a gazillion Android devices ... some sporting Quad-HD screens

    Pretty amazing considering all Apples phones are more premium prices phones while there are tons of budget android phones down to well below $100 off contract.

    That means if you boil it down to just premium phone Apple is killing android.

    I notice a lot of Android give away Devices.... Buy this product and get a free Tablet, sign up for this and get a free Android mobile device. I wonder if they account this when tallying numbers of Android device actions?
