Default Apple Pay Adds Several New Partners for Apple Pay Ahead of Samsung's Payment Solution

Apple has recently added BECU, Golden 1, Alliant and First Tech as Apple Pay partners alongside leading regional banks BBVA Compass and Fifth Third. As a result, millions of more consumers have access to Apple’s mobile payment solution. This is all in the heels of rumors of Samsung being set to introduce a payment program initiative of its own at the Galaxy S6 launch next month.

For those of you who didn’t know, BECU or Boeing Employees’ Credit Union, Alliant, First Tech and Golden 1 together serve over 2 million members – all primarily in the Midwest and on the west coast. BBVA Compass, which is owned by Spanish banking giant, BBVA, and the Fifth Third Bank each rank among the 50 largest banks in the US. Along with the new additions are smaller organizations Altra Federal Credit Union, Andrews Federal Credit Union, Ent Federal Credit Union, F&A Federal Credit Union, First Niagara Bank, INOVA Federal Credit Union, Savings Bank of Danbury, Star One Credit Union and Uwharrie Bank.

Apple CEO Tim Cook previously revealed in the company’s most recent earnings call that $2 out of every $3 spent with Visa, MasterCard, or AmericanExpress via contactless payments are flowing through Apple Pay. As of right now, the Cupertino California company has more than 750 institutions signed on to support the initiative and an international rollout is said to be in the works “soon.”

As mentioned before, with the initial adoption of Apple Pay being successful, Samsung seems to be once again rumored to be planning a mobile payment system of its own. The folks over at DDaily are stating that Samsung’s previously reported partnership with LoopPay will come to fruition next month alongside the rumored shift towards a Touch-ID style fingerprint sensor in the Galaxy S6. We’ll have to see what happens by being patient.

I like how android companies always fail miserably at something because they want to do it before apple. Then Apple waits a little bit, releases the same thing but done right, and droid has to then copy it as closely as possible. Pathetic.
