On Tuesday morning, one of the world's foremost global payments platforms announced its support for Apple Pay, which marks the latest financial-services giant to embrace Apple's hugely popular mobile money offering.

Western Union confirmed in a news release that it will offer the Apple Pay mobile payment solution at Western Union’s flagship locations. Additionally, the company explains, consumers making Western Union transactions at thousands of kiosks at Walgreens and Duane Reade locations across the U.S. will also have access to the Apple Pay service.

“Innovative payment options are a strategic focus for Western Union, and starting to accept Apple Pay is in keeping with the company’s blueprint for the future,” Odilon Almeida, Western Union President for the Americas and European Union, was quoted in this morning's announcement. “Our customers’ needs and preferences are top of mind."

As we understand it, Apple Pay is now available at Western Union’s flagship presence (located at 1440 Broadway) in New York City. We're told that more participating Western Union Agent locations will soon follow.
