The iOS volume HUD is pretty decent, but there are some issues with it that can make it a real pain in the rear for certain scenarios. For example, when you're watching a video or looking at photos, the HUD is already right in the middle of the display and it feels like it takes forever to dismiss.

A new free jailbreak tweak called Better HUD by iOS developer iTurki hopes to fix this by adding two major improvements to the volume HUD in iOS:

  1. The volume HUD is moved to the top left of the display, out of the way of vital content
  2. The volume HUD auto-disappears in less than a second, instead of loitering around on your display forever

That is the currently the meat and potatoes of this tweak, although the developer notes that more features are likely to follow in future updates by user requests. There are no options to configure, although it would be nice to have some customization over the side of the screen that the HUD appears on, and how long it takes to dismiss itself.

If you want to give Better HUD a try, it's available for free right now in Cydia's BigBoss repository. The tweak works with both iOS 7 and iOS 8.
