Default 'WhitelistSwitcher' Helps De-clutter Your App Switcher of Apps You Don't Use Very Much

The App Switcher can be used for multiple things. Among some of the more popular uses are either to multitask quickly by going from one application to another, or to make it easier to get to your recently-used applications without having to search your Home Screen for the application you're looking for.

A new jailbreak tweak called WhitelistSwitcher is now available in Cydia by iOS developer Ruslan Ardashev, and if you use your App Switcher for the latter, then you might really enjoy how this tweak works.

WhitelistSwitcher makes it so that you can control the clutter in your iOS 8 App Switcher. The tweak includes a white list function in the Settings application, shown below, where you can control the applications that are allowed to appear in the App Switcher. Any applications that you have not selected to be a part of the white list, will no longer appear in the App Switcher, even if you've used them recently.

The tweak adds a preferences pane to the Settings application where you can not only configure the white list, but also enable and disable the tweak on demand:

The tweak works best for those of you that want to quickly get back to your favorite recently-used applications, because most likely, if you've white-listed an application, then it's probably a favorite application of yours that you use a lot. It gets rid of the clutter of applications you don't care about as much by hiding them from the App Switcher interface, and thus makes it easier to scroll over to the application you're looking for.

For example, if you use Safari a lot, and Cydia a lot, and even the App Store a lot, you can white list those applications so that they'll appear in the App Switcher. On the other hand, if you don't white list applications like Tips, Newsstand, and Passbook, then the next time you open them, you can ensure yourself the fact that they're not going to be in your App Switcher the next time you open it, and instead, you can get to the applications you white-listed faster without having to worry about scrolling past (or even closing) Tips, Newsstand, and Passbook.

On the other hand, if you do a lot of multi-tasking, this tweak might not be for you, because there's always that chance that you need to get to an application you were just using, and unless it's white-listed, it's not going to appear in the App Switcher again.

You can check out the developer's instructional video of the tweak below:

If you want to give WhitelistSwitcher a try, it's available for 99 right now in Cydia's BigBoss repository. The tweak requires iOS 8 to be installed.
