Default Apple Ripoff, Xiaomi, Sold 61 Million Phones in 2014

Whether you scoff at the very familiar designs that Xiaomi phones tout or whether you admire the company’s ability to adapt to the market, Xiaomi continues to grow as the world’s third-largest phone manufacturer. The company recently announced a new valuation of $46 billion which makes it the most valuable tech startup in existence. It should be noted that the company announced that its sales revenue increased by more than 100% in 2014 as the company sold a massive 61.1 million smartphones to customers.

The company chairman and CEO Lei Jun made the $12 billion earnings announcement which came shortly after Xiaomi unveiled its Hongmi (Red Ride) 2 smartphone. For those of you who didn’t know, the Hongmi 2 is an Android 4.4.4 device which touts a Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 1.4 GHz quad-core CPU, 4.7-inch display, 1 GB of RAM, 8 GB ROM, 8 megapixel rear camera and 2 megapixel front camera. The device is set to launch in China for a contract-free retail price of roughly $113 on January 9 before it makes its way to other markets overseas such as Indonesia.

Right now, there are several rumors which suggest that Xiaomi is currently trying to beat Apple to the market with a smartphone sapphire display to be announced at CES. Nothing has been unveiled as of yet.

Although there isn’t any mention made of just how much of a profit the company made away with in 2014, Xiaomi did earn roughly $51 million in profits in 2013. We’ll have to wait and see if patent infringement and design theft accusations catch up with the company or if 2015 turns out to be another year of success.

As long as their HQ stays in China, they'll have no worries. But, just like Huawei, if put down feet in the US (or territories) -- possibly euro zone -- they'll have their asses handed to them in court (like Cisco v Huawei).
Although that mobile looks a bit more non-Apple to my untrained eye...

    Cheap, is the key word.

You can pick them up for cheap £ on eBay. Not sure they'd even work here. Think China used TD-LTE rather than regular 4G. Someone correct me if I'm wrong

You can skin the android OS with the IOS8 front end. Just bought a $20 android net10 phone, no contract. It works and behaves just like an Apple phone for $20.

As soon as more of the public picks up on the fact that a cheap android can do most of what everyone else does, the market will collapse.

    Maybe.

Aside from the 5c-esque colors, looks nothing like the iPhone.

Or on the other spectrum, you can say this looks like ALL smartphones.

No it won't. The market won't stand for cheap knockoffs that will break in a year.

They could stand it for a year, tho - long enough to double their profits!
