Default How to Make Your Status Bar Battery Percentage More Accurate in iOS

Many of us rely on our Status Bars to tell us an accurate reading of our battery percentage so that we know when our power is getting too low. The current system works pretty well, although Apple's Status Bar battery percentage system is a little bit flawed in that it's not entirely accurate.

You may notice that when you respring your device, your battery percentage changes every so often. You may also notice that your device says it's fully charged even when your battery percentage is truly only at 97-99% or that it takes so long for your battery to deplete when you're 100% charged, but drains so quickly under 50%. This is because Apple's algorithm for detecting and displaying your battery percentage is not the most accurate method in the world.

iOS developer pw5a29 has just released a new free jailbreak tweak in Cydia's ModMyi repository called Actual Battery, which will give you a much more accurate battery reading in the Status Bar. With the tweak installed, rather than using Apple's inflated algorithm, which takes your usage into account, your battery percentage in the Status Bar will be based off of true numbers.

For example, if you have a 1283 mAh total battery capacity, and you only have 412 mAh left before the battery needs to be recharged, this tweak will divide 412 by 1283 in order to get .32, or a 32% battery percentage level. This means you get a much more accurate reading in your Status Bar.

The tweak adds a kill-switch to the Settings application where you can enable or disable the tweak on demand:

Overall, this tweak will not make a noticeable impact on your usage, and you will hardly even realize that it's doing anything for you in the background. For example, it's not going to miraculously give you battery battery life and it's not going to change the way your battery level is displayed. On the other hand, you get the peace of mind of knowing that your battery percentage in the Status Bar is no longer lying to you and that it's much more accurate than it was before.

If you want to give Actual Battery a try, it's available for free right now in Cydia's ModMyi repository. The tweak is confirmed to work only on iOS 8.

It's not much different than when they wouldn't display accurate cellular signals and devs made tweaks to show more accurate signal strength.
