If you're looking for ways to clean up your multitasking App Switcher to make it less cluttered, or to add features to it to make it more secure, then check out a new free jailbreak tweak called SimpleSwitcher by iOS developer N104.

SimpleSwitcher adds a preferences pane to the Settings application where you can configure plenty of options to make the multitasking App Switcher look the way that you want it to. The way we see it, this tweak can be used for two different things for looks, or for security.

We say this because you can use it to make certain features of the multitasking App Switcher disappear to de-clutter the interface, such as hiding the application icons and their labels. On the other hand, you can also use it for security purposes because you can make the multitasking App Switcher preview parts transparent or invisible so that you can't see a screenshot of what you were doing last in that application.

The options you can configure include:

  • Making application preview cards transparent or invisible
  • Hiding or showing the application icons or application icon labels
  • Disabling landscape mode for the App Switcher on the iPhone 6 Plus or iPad

Whenever you make changes in the Settings application, you will have to use the "Apply Settings" button to save your settings and respring.

If you're looking to de-clutter the multitasking App Switcher, then you might just hide the application icons on their labels. If you're looking for security, you might use the transparent or invisible option to keep those looking over your shoulder from seeing what you were doing last in your previously-used applications when you open the App Switcher.

If you want to give SimpleSwitcher a try, it's available for free right now in Cydia's BigBoss repository. The tweak works with both iOS 7 and iOS 8.
