Default iPhone Dominated Holiday Device Activations

With the holiday shopping rush now behind us, new data freshly published by the folks at Flurry clearly points to one superior mobile leader in the end-of-year smartphone wars.

Apple was once again the dominant force beneath millions of Christmas trees in 2014. Per the usual tradition, the team at Flurry took a good look at device activations over the holiday week and Apple was the winner despite a sea of competition.

Since the beginning of the mobile revolution, Christmas Day has seen the highest number of new device activations and app installs each year, and 2014 was no exception. Flurry examined data from the more than 600,000 apps we track to understand what was under the Christmas tree and which apps we downloaded as soon as the wrapping paper was taken off.
Calling this most recent holiday a "banner Christmas" for Apple, Apple accounted for 51% of the new device activations globally in the week leading up to Christmas Day. The range covered is December 19th - 25th, Flurry says.

So who took the silver? Samsung clung to the #2 spot with 18% of new device activations. In third was Microsoft (Nokia) with a 5.8% share (primarily for Lumia devices).
