SpotLight is a useful feature of iOS that is often overlooked. This is partially because it can't be used anywhere except for the Home Screen, at which point, you might as well just tap on the application icon of the application that can perform the function you want instead of opening SpotLight to do that for you.

If you want to make SpotLight accessible from anywhere, as well as add new features to the SpotLight interface so that you can do more with it, then you need a new jailbreak tweak called SearchLight by iOS developer twodayslate.

Rather than only being able to access SpotLight from the Home Screen, SearchLight makes it so that you can access SpotLight from anywhere using Activator. You can assign SearchLight any Activator action that you want to, and then invoke it to bring up the SpotLight interface no matter what application you're in, or where in iOS you are (except for the Lock Screen).

SearchLight also acts as an iOS 8-replacement for AnySpot and ListLauncher7 by adding new features into SpotLight, such as the ability to see recently-used applications, the ability to see all of your installed applications (via AppList), and the ability to view favorite applications, as shown above.

The tweak adds a preferences pane to the Settings application where you can configure the Activator action that you want to use, as well as configure the appearance of SearchLight:

You will also find options to hide or show recent/favorite/installed applications from the SpotLight interface. In terms of appearance, you can choose between Adaptive Light, Light, Dark, or Blur. You can also enable or disable logging if you choose to.

SearchLight is available in Cydia's BigBoss repository right now for just 99, but act fast because the developer notes that the tweak is currently on sale for an introductory price that is more than 50% off the actual price – in other words, buy it now or you'll be paying more for it later! SearchLight requires iOS 8 and Activator. It's also an open-source project, so its source code is available for the public eye on GitHub at this link.
