Default Canada Demands Documents from Apple

Canada is taking aim at Apple's competitive business practices.

Reuters says The Federal Court of Canada is ordering Apple's Canadian subsidiary to release documents to the Competition Bureau. The reason? Canadian authorities are investigating a potential unfair use of Apple's "market power" to push iPhones in the country.

Mandated by the order, Apple has 90 days to release the documents in question. The papers, we're told, must include details of the agreements Apple negotiated with Canada's various mobile carriers.

The Competition Bureau said that among the items it is investigating is whether Apple Canada contracts may have discouraged wireless carriers from reducing the price of other companies' handsets, or whether Apple encouraged them to maintain or boost the price of wireless services for competing handsets.
As of this writing, it isn't clear if Apple will do as they're told, or if the iDevice-maker may first protest the decision and appeal the mandate in question.
