Microsoft continues to try to grow its presence on Apple’s iOS platform with the recent acquisition of Acompli, a popular mobile email client which made its debut on the iPhone earlier this year. Rajesh Jha, corporate vice president of Microsoft’s Outlook and Office, mentioned that the acquisition of Accompli is part of an ongoing strategy to offer the best productivity experiences across mobile platforms. The following was said regarding the matter:

(Acompli) provides innovative ways to focus on what's important in your inbox, to schedule meetings, and work with attachments and files. Users love how it connects to all email services and provides a single place to manage email with a focus on getting things done.
Microsoft plans to integrate Accompli with its Outlook team, pointing toward the fact that the email application could be in for some major changes. Acompli Chief Executive, Javier Soltero, said the deal should allow both Microsoft and his company to pursue “a better, faster, more powerful experience.”

For those of you who didn’t know, Acompli is a free email application that was designed for the iPhone and the iPad. It works with Microsoft Exchange, Outlook.com, Hotmail, MSN, Office 365 as well as Apple’s iCloud, Google’s Gmail, Yahoo and more. One thing to take particular note of was that Acompli wasn’t available on Microsoft’s Windows platform, including Windows Phone.

We’ll have to see what advancements Microsoft makes due to the acquisition in due time.
