Default CIRP Survey Reveals Larger Screen iPhones Aren't As Popular with Android Switchers

According to recent data gathered by Consumer Intelligence Research Partners (CIRP), the larger screen sizes found on the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus aren’t as popular with Android switchers as everyone thought they might be. The conducted survey results revealed that fewer iPhone buyers (12%) came from the Android platform in 2014 compared to the number of buyers who switched to an iPhone in 2013 (23%). The launch of the iPhone 5S also saw a higher number of customers coming from BlackBerry and Windows devices for what it was worth.

That being said, former Android owners who were already accustomed to having larger screens were more likely to buy the 5.5-inch iPhone 6 Plus than iPhone owners who were upgrading to a new device. Additional statistics reveal that 31% of former Android owners chose the iPhone 6 Plus while only 25% of existing iPhone owners went for the 5.5-inch iPhone 6 Plus over the 4.7-inch iPhone 6. The data also shows that those who did switch from Android in 2014 leaned towards going for more expensive flagship iPhones. In September of 2014, 85% of former Android owners who bought an iPhone chose the iPhone 6 or 6 Plus, while only 52% of those coming from the Android platform bought an iPhone chose the iPhone 5S in 2013.

If you weren’t familiar with what rumors were afloat before the launch of the iPhone 6 or 6 Plus, analysts and speculators alike were suggesting that the larger screens of the two devices would cause a large spike in upgrades while also attracting a large number of former Android users who would be interested in the larger displays. Apple even ended up anticipating more users to switch over as they launched a guide designed to walk Android users through moving data from their Android devices to the iPhone.

Furthermore, in the most recent earnings call, CEO Tim Cook claimed that Apple had seen a large spike in the number of upgraders along with many first time buyers including both those who never had a smartphone and those who made the switch from Android over to iOS. As a result, Cook explained that the demand was “far outstripping” supply with no clear date for supply/demand balance in sight.

Although it appears that the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus may not have been as popular with Android switchers, it is important to keep in mind that the data CIRP gathered came from 300 Apple customers who purchase an iPhone in the 30 days following the device’s launch. Generally, 300 surveyors is a small sample size, especially when compared to the number of people who purchase one of Apple’s new devices. It’ll be interesting to see if the balance between upgrades and switchers changes over time.

All I know is that they are super popular with someone, because I've been waiting over 3 weeks for my 6+

Look, if someone bought an android device to begin with, they're just ignorant to begin with, and belong with the class of people that still use windows.

The issue with this comparison is that they are using percentages of total sales. Since the sales numbers are likely a lot higher this year, the number of Android switchers could at least be the same.

I'd be interested in seeing the raw numbers rather than percentages.

Perhaps he realizes that no matter where you are, insulting for personal preference and/or socio-economic class is inappropriate no matter what forum you happen to be on.

    Well that proves ( nothing ) a point 😏

as far as the research why not at least sample like 5,000 since millions have been sold?

How can 300 people represent any valid data among the 10 million who purchased on the first weekend? Useless article.

I did, and I thought it was a pretty funny comment.

Apparently you are not only ignorant, but lack a sense of humor too.
