Default AT&T Confirms Recent Data Breach Affected Customer Information

AT&T has announced a recent data breach involving one of its own employees that decided not to follow the rules. The now former AT&T employe reportedly made off with numerous social security numbers, driver's license numbers, and information about the subscriptions to AT&T's services that the user was tied to:

AT&T claims that they've already notified the necessary federal authorities about the matter and that they will be offering one year of free credit monitoring, as well as free credit score checks to the 1600-ish customers that have been affected by the data breach. AT&T has reportedly notified those that have been affected and attached the following letter with instructions on what to do [direct link].

If you suspect that you've been affected by the breach, it is recommended that you follow the instructions in the letter to keep yourself protected. You can also call AT&T directly to see if you have been verified. Out of all of the customers that AT&T actually has, 1600 is not a whole lot, so there's a pretty good chance that you're not affected, but it never hurts to check.

At this rate I'll never have to pay for credit score checks and fraud alert as it will be free for life. If one company is not getting hacked it's another.
