Default 'CallShortcut' Lets You Add Contact Shortcuts to Your Home Screen

If you need faster access to your contacts, then a new free jailbreak tweak called CallShortcut by iOS developers gertab and David Glinski might be right up your alley.

CallShortcut allows you to add shortcuts to your Home Screen for calling your contacts, as shown above. The icons will display a generic image if you have no contact pictures assigned to them, but if you have a contact picture assigned to your contact, then it will display their contact picture on your Home Screen instead of a generic image. When you tap on the contact icon, your iPhone will initiate a phone call to that person using their phone number.

The tweak is very easy to use:

Just open your phone application, choose a contact from your contacts list, scroll all the way down to the bottom of the contact card and tap on "Add to Home Screen," and then tap on the "OK" button on the pop-up message. Now, you'll have created an icon on your Home Screen for calling that particular person.

If the particular contact has more than one phone number, you will be asked what phone number you want to use for the Home Screen contact shortcut.

The tweak also adds a preferences pane to the Settings application where you can configure a few options:

Here, you can enable or disable the tweak on demand, as well as configure what will appear as the application icon's name. The name can be any of the following things:

    • Default
    • Name
    • Surname
    • First name and surname
    • Surname and first name
    • Title, first name, and surname
    • Title, surname
    • Nickname
    • Note

If you'd like to have faster access to calling your contacts, give CallShortcut a try, it's available for free right now in Cydia's BigBoss repository. iOS 7 is required for the installation.

wow that's wonderful, considering I've been doing this with Custom Dial from the app store since iOS 4.
