Default FBI Director Suggests iOS, Android Phones Are Too Private

This isn't going to sit well with many, but it's an assertion straight from the top of the FBI.

In what is understandably proving to be a controversial interview in the Huffington Post, FBI Director James Comey is quoted today saying that he is "concerned" that the newest security features of leading iOS and Android smartphones are just too darn good at keeping the government shut out.

Okay, here's how he put it in his own words.

"I am a huge believer in the rule of law, but I am also a believer that no one in this country is above the law," Comey is quoted. "What concerns me about this is companies marketing something expressly to allow people to place themselves above the law."

At a time when a growing number of Americans are uneasy about everything from wiretaps to celebrity photo leaks, it seems unpalatable at best for the FBI's director to suggest today that iPhones and Android devices may be too secure for the government's liking.

Comey said that while he understood the need for privacy, government access to mobile devices may be needed in extreme circumstances, such as in the event of a terror attack.
"I like and believe very much that we should have to obtain a warrant from an independent judge to be able to take the content of anyone's closet or their smart phone," Comey says. "The notion that someone would market a closet that could never be opened -- even if it involves a case involving a child kidnapper and a court order -- to me does not make any sense."

Mean to tell me that raiding Facebook and Google servers for peoples profiles and information isn't enough for them?

yeah bc them having ALL the info worked out so well for them in the boston marathon bombings.
the reason everyone is stepping up privacy is bc the GOVERNMENT is the one who best at violating it.
"govern not" take your ball and go home.

Well...for starters - so much for iOS being more secure than Android if BOTH phones seem to be comparable in privacy (according to Mr. FBI)

To the point - no amount of invasion of our privacy will make us safer. You cannot stop a plot in Ohio with the text messages of someone in New York. If it was possible, there would be no crime. Government does NOTHING right. If the FBI is so concerned about children getting kidnapped, they should start publically executing child predators and making examples...instead of slapping them on the wrist and giving them parole.

You don't need espionage to stop crime...just a tougher justice system that is not afraid to make examples.

Anytime our so called government wants to spy on us or blatantly violate our rights, they use the guise of terrorism and national security. So, they are basically saying we are all terrorists under their watchful eye..connect the dots. Such BS!!

Govt, stay the (bleep) out of my business! I can't say anything about this president or they'll come arrest me. This piece of ..... Pres. doesn't even have the balls to call terrorists what they are: Islamic fundamentalists! What a bunch of overreaching power-driven retards!

Nakedcrook, I can't believe I'm going to say this. But I'm agreeing with you on this issue! LOL I say eye for a eye, and maybe, people will think twice before committing a crime or a act of terror!

Consider nowadays when you're criminalizes for spanking your kids. It's soooo basic! Look at the crime stats now in the parent/friend age. We don't have consequences, what's the incentive to do right?!

Besides that they are trying to use inverse psychology with us, they are sending you a message behind this... How you think they can tell you they are too private... ? Hello... they are tying and doing it.
