Downloads section at top of this page has links to all firmwares ^

My thoughts on why Apple may still be signing iOS 7.1.2. Maybe they knew they had known issues with iOS 8. Some features disabled from iOS 8 right at release. This may have disrupted the continuity of the software causing problems. Many of us know to grab the old ipsw out of the recycling bin on an update or make a copy of ipsw when downloaded from Apple and try a restore with older software if problems arise in the first few hours of an update. Apple most likely kept iOS 7.1.2 alive to back them out of a sticky situation on a case by case basis.

Just a thought, I could be completely wrong.

If you upgraded to iOS 8 and backed up you info, you cannot restore that particular backup on iOS 7.1.2. It will inform you that iOS 8 is needed before you restore. You will have to choose an older backup, one done before the upgrade to iOS 8.

Same thing every year upon a new major firmware revision update. Bugs galore in the new one.. And signing window staying open for long periods on the last iOS firmware. We have short memories. Same this last year - and the year before, etc, etc...
