Default 'Programmable SMS' Lets You Automate Texts Based On Specific Acivator-based Actions

Want a way to better automate the SMS/iMessage functionality in iOS so that you can respond to people even when you're busy, such as when you're driving, in the middle of a meeting, when a specific time comes, or when you arrive at a specific location?

A new free jailbreak tweak called Programmable SMS by iOS developer PlatypusW will let you integrate personalized text messages and/or iMessages to specific Activator actions or events.

Programmable SMS adds a preferences pane to the Settings application where you can begin configuring it to your liking:

From here, you can enable or disable the tweak on demand, as well as configure specific Activator actions (or events) for when a text message or iMessage should be sent. From the Actions pane, you can edit or delete existing events, and add new ones using the editing buttons provided in the interface.

When you tap on the Add button, you are brought to an interface where you can enable or disable the individual event on demand, as well as choose to automatically disable the event after it's taken place, and then at the bottom you can choose who the message will go to, as well as what the message will be.

The automatically disable feature is useful for one-time messages, such as scheduled messages, as the developer notes.

When you go into the Activator preferences pane, you will be able to start assigning the programmed SMS that you created to an action of your choosing:

The Activator action can be very useful if you're in the middle of driving or in the middle of a meeting, because instead of taking the time to answer a text message and stare at a keyboard, a simple Activator action could send an "I'm busy, I will have to get back to you later" message to the person messaging you.

If you don't want to use a specific Activator action, you can choose to have the message be delivered at a specific time, or even when you connect to a specific Wi-Fi network instead, such as at work, so that your phone automatically reminds a family member that you made it to work safely.

The developer has included this demo video of the tweak working to show how the features can be configured and used:

If you're interested in giving Programmable SMS a try for your text messaging needs, it's available right now for free in Cydia's BigBoss repository. iOS 7 is required to the use the tweak, as well as Activator.

Great idea, but seems pretty buggy right now.
