On Thursday, just one day after Apple released iOS 8 to the general public, iOS game development firm Gameloft has updated its popular Modern Combat 5: Blackout first-person shooter game for iOS with support for Apple's new Metal developer API.

Gameloft originally released Modern Combat 5: Blackout back in July, and since then, the game has held a very solid 4 out of 5 star rating in the iOS App Store. The Modern Combat series offers both impressive single-player campaign mode, as well as online multi-player mode; the graphics are no slouch either.

With Apple's new Metal API supported in the latest version (1.0.3) of Modern Combat 5: Blackout, the game sees several improvements to performance and improved graphics. Gameloft has more details about the graphics improvements in the App Store description:

It's also worth mentioning that only those with an A7 chip or newer can take advantage of the new Metal graphics. iPhone 5s and later, as well as iPad Mini with retina display and iPad Air users can take advantage of Metal. iOS 8 is also required to take advantage of Metal.
