Default 'Parental Controls for iOS' Helps You Control Your Child's Usage of Their iOS 7 Device

If you have a child, or another family member that you watch over, that spends way too much of their time playing on their iOS device instead of actually being outside and socializing, then this new jailbreak tweak called Parental Controls for iOS by iOS developer Ge0rges could be a helpful little addition.

Parental Controls for iOS lets you set limits on how long that the iOS device is allowed to be used. The tweak adds a preferences pane to the Settings application where you can configure how many hours the device is allowed to be used on weekdays, and how many hours the device is allowed to be used on weekends:

In addition, you will be able to enable or disable the tweak on demand, as well as set your own passcode. The passcode will be used every time that you try to enter the Settings application's preferences pane, or every time that you try to open Cydia. This way, your child will not be able to change the settings to the tweak, or uninstall the tweak without your permission. A respring is required each time you make changes to the settings here.

When the time limit is up, the device will give you a pop-up that says, "Parental Controls: Your time limit has been reached. Check back tomorrow for more time." While the user is locked out of their device, they will get three options the ability to make an emergency call, the ability to add an extra hour, and the ability to dismiss the message.

Adding another hour requires the passcode that the parent set, so the child can ask the parent for a little extra time and the parent can ultimately decide if they want to give the child more time. If the parent says no, the child will be stuck with the limitation and unable to use the device until the next day.

At this point in time, Parental Controls for iOS is only compatible with 32-bit iOS devices. The iPhone 5s is not yet supported, but support will come in the future.

If you want to give Parental Controls for iOS a try, it's available in Cydia's BigBoss repository right now for 99. iOS 7 is required for the installation.

What happens in safe mode? Serious flaw for anyone who knows much about jailbroken devices.
