Default Apple Reportedly Already Testing iOS 8.0.1 Ahead of iOS 8 Release

Apple is scheduled to hold a special event next week on September 9th (Tuesday), and it will be live-streamed on Apple's Web site. Among the many things that Apple is expected to unveil, and even release, on Tuesday, iOS 8 is one of them. iOS 8 has been in its beta stages since the beginning of this Summer and has slowly been coming together for a free public release this Fall.

While iOS 8.0 still hasn't even surfaced for the public yet, albeit it will soon, MacRumors reports that Apple is already testing iOS 8.0.1 with partners ahead of the public release. The proof comes from Web logs that are registering under iOS 8.0.1 rather than iOS 8.0. All beta firmwares and near-public releases of iOS 8 would appear as "8.0," but 8.0.1 suggests that another update with additional bug fixes will be soon released after the event next week.

Something similar happened last year with iOS 7 after it was released. After iOS 7.0 made it to the public, Apple quickly released iOS 7.0.1 to fix problems with the iPhone 5s and the iPhone 5c, such as some bugs with Touch ID and with purchasing content from the iOS App Store.

iOS 8.0.1 could be fixing problems on some of Apple's yet-to-be-announced devices, or perhaps it's a necessary software jump to help with the stability and security of the operating system overall. Only time will actually tell.

Why release it as 8.0.1 and not just add one more beta or GM release before public. It just seems silly to release a firmware you know has bugs and already have an update for.

    ......beware......

Probably because some phones will already have been built with 8.0 and to go back and reflash them is more hassle/cost than just letting the public do it themselves.

I suppose that makes sense. Still seems a bit stupid though.

I suspect it saves Apple a vast quantity of money doing it this way.

I find it pretty un-apple like. The wood on the back panels of the furniture are plain.

Exactly. Apple needs to have the final version of iOS 8.0 ready for shipping on their devices a while before they actually release them

it's just to keep the jailbreak release on hold for some times fearing the patching of the hole with new update
