Default Add New One-handed Zooming Features to Mobile Safari With 'ZW1T Lite'

One of the parts of Mobile Safari that we use a lot is the ability to double-tap on an item in the Web browsing view to zoom in to the width of that item. You can pinch to zoom in even further, but the tap gesture for zooming is relatively limited.

A new free jailbreak tweak called ZW1T Lite by iOS developer Good4Some1 is available to make it easier to zoom just how you want to with the addition of some new tap gestures.

The new tap gestures that you'll be using are double-tap gestures, but the way the tweak works is the point on the screen where your finger lands when you make the second tap in the double-tap gesture will ultimately make the tweak decide how to zoom.

For example, if you double tap, but the second time your finger hits the screen it lands somewhere below where you already tapped, the tweak will zoom in to match an item's height, such as above on the right. If you double tap, but the second time your finger hits the screen it lands somewhere above where you already tapped, the tweak will zoom in to match an item's width, such as above on the left.

ZW1T Lite adds a preferences pane where you can configure each of the different tap gestures and what you want them to do:

Here, you can enable or disable the tweak on demand, configure the actions of the different tap gestures, and configure several behaviors. The different tap gestures you can configure include:

    • Double-tapping (main gesture)
    • Tapping and then tapping higher than where you tapped before
    • Tapping and then tapping lower than where you tapped before
    • Tapping and then tapping to the left of where you tapped before
    • Tapping and then tapping to the right of where you tapped before
    • Tapping and then tapping up and to the left of where you tapped before
    • Tapping and then tapping down and to the left of where you tapped before
    • Tapping and then tapping up and to the right of where you tapped before
    • Tapping and then tapping down and to the right of where you tapped before

You can configure the above gestures to do any of the following things:

    • Do nothing
    • Fit entire item
    • Fit item width
    • Fit item height
    • Fit entire 1 page/2
    • Fit one page/2 width (up and to the right)
    • Fit one page/2 width (up and to the left)
    • Normal size
    • Undo last zoom

The additional zooming options offered by ZW1T Lite give you more control over what your focus will be on when reading or viewing content from a Web page. It's worth noting that it will take time to get used to because you'll have to memorize all of your new gestures, but once you've got that down, you'll be able to use this tweak to make quicker zooming decisions.

The tweak is especially useful for those that only have one hand and can't pinch to zoom – the name "ZW1T" actually stands for "zoom with 1 thumb," which is why the additional tap gestures are meant to replace pinch to zoom.

If you want to give ZW1T Lite a try, it's available for free right now in Cydia's BigBoss repository. The tweak is only compatible with Mobile Safari in iOS 7.
