Default 'Smart Search' Adds Organized New Searching Capabilities to SpotLight Search in iOS 7

Whether or not you use SpotLight, it's a handy feature of iOS that lets you search for things locally on your iOS device to quickly get to things. Fortunately, the jailbreak community has found ways to beef up the stock search feature with new search results and improvements to the feature set.

One of the coolest new releases we've seen so far is one called Smart Search by iOS developers David Murray and Josh K. Shown above, this new jailbreak tweak adds organized new search sections to SpotLight's interface in iOS 7.

Smart Search adds searching capabilities to iOS 7's SpotLight for local search results, the App Store, Google, Spotify, IMDb, Wikipedia, YouTube, and the iTunes Store. By default, you will see only the buttons for local, App Store, Google, Spotify, and IMDb, but by swiping to the right, you'll find the hidden Wikipedia, YouTube, and iTunes Store buttons.

To begin searching using one of those search engines, simply tap on the button that goes to the application you want to search, input a search into the search field, and tap on the Search button on the keyboard. Search results from the application that you're searching in will populate your screen, as shown above.

The tweak adds a preferences pane to the Settings application where you can enable or disable certain search buttons depending on whether you plan on using them or not:

This is one of the coolest new SpotLight modifying interfaces for iOS 7 that we've seen yet, and best of all, the developers note that more features are coming soon. It's really cool to see how all these new features have been added to the native SpotLight interface without the need to create a completely separate entity outside of iOS' SpotLight search.

If you would like to give Smart Search a try, it's available in Cydia's BigBoss repository right now for $2.49. iOS 7 is required, as is a device with a retina display.
