Default Wall Street Journal: Next iPhone to Have Record High Production Numbers

It has been reported by The Wall Street Journal that Apple has asked suppliers to produce around 70-80 million units by December 30th of this year. This is a record high number of iPhones ever. It was also reported this month that both 4.7 and 5.5-inch iPhone models are to go into mass production in the next couple of months. However, other rumors have been going around saying the larger iPhone won’t be released until 2015.

Previous iPhone models like the iPhone 5s and 5c, only had approximately 50-60 million devices produced. It has been reported that partner Foxconn, just recently hired 100,000 more workers to help with the high number of devices to be produced. The 5.5-inch iPhone is apparently experiencing manufacturing difficulties, but some reports are claiming that both versions will be shipping together this year. The Wall Street Journal stated:

For Apple, one possible hiccup with the larger screen is that display makers for the new iPhones are struggling to improve the production of the larger 5.5-inch screens, people familiar with the matter said. The production is complicated because the displays are using in-cell technology, which allows the screens to be thinner and lighter by integrating touch sensors into the liquid crystal display and making it unnecessary to have a separate touch-screen layer.
There have been many photo leaks of the 4.7-inch iPhone in the past weeks as well. However, the 5.5-inch has not had too many releases like the smaller version has. The unreleased iPhone has been rumored to have a sapphire crystal display, which has even been through a scratch test already on YouTube.
