Default 'handyDialer' Supercharges Your Dialing Abilities in the iOS 7 Phone App

If you use your Phone application on your iPhone often and you would like a way to supercharge your abilities on the number dialing pad, then you need to check out a new jailbreak tweak called handyDialer by iOS developer whynot.

This tweak is actually much like a previous tweak by the same developer called handyPhone, but the developer states that handyDialer has more to offer. We can also tell from the tweak that it has been given a better interface to go along with iOS 7.1 and later, with new styled buttons to the right and left of the call button for both backspacing what you type in and adding the number you type in to your Contact list.

The tweak adds T9 functionality to your iPhone's dialer keypad, allowing you to search for contacts or phone numbers related to the letters on the keys you are inputting. For example, if we want to call John Appleseed, we need to type in the numbers on the keyboard that have the letters of the name on them, so for example, we could type in 5646 and the tweak would auto-compete our search with John Appleseed at the top of the Phone application, as shown above.

If we enter a phone number that isn't in our contact list already, we can tap on the Add Contact button to the left of the Call button to add that phone number to our contact list, or add it to an existing contact.

The developer notes that handyDialer is better than handyPhone because it allows you to start name searching from any letter in the contact's name, but with handyPhone you are only able to start seaching from the name's initial letter. He also notes that the logic has been re-written for improvements with alphabetic languages.

The subtle changes to the Phone application seem very useful and work very nicely with the native interface of the application. If you would like to give handyDialer a try, it's available right now in Cydia's BigBoss repository for $3.99. The tweak does require iOS 7 to be installed and only works on iPhones with four-inch displays since it requires the Phone application and the additional canvas space.

    Name: handyDialer
    Price: $3.99
    Version: 1.2.1-1
    Requirements: iOS 7.0-7.1.2, iPhone 5+
Tested on: iPhone 5 running iOS 7.1.2
    Repo: BigBoss
    Developer: whynot
    Editor's Rating:  5/5
