Thread: Apple Moves to Using The Weather Channel for iOS 8 Weather Information

Default Apple Moves to Using The Weather Channel for iOS 8 Weather Information

In iOS 8, Apple has moved to using The Weather Channel as the provider of weather information rather than Yahoo!, like in iOS 7 and earlier. A screenshot taken from the iOS 8 Weather application shows The Weather Channel's logo at the bottom of the Weather application instead, as shown above.

The change is a bit surprising considering that Apple has been teamed up with Yahoo! for so long for weather information on its iOS devices, but it could be a positive change of events. iOS 8's Weather application is much more detailed than that of the Weather application in iOS 7, and shows information such as:

    • Nine-day weather forecast
    • Sunrise/sunset information
    • Chance of rain and humidity levels
    • The wind speed
    • The "feels like" temperature
    • The precipitation levels
    • The visibility
    • The U.V. index

It's worth mentioning that Yahoo! stepped up its game with its standalone Yahoo! Weather application for iOS (a free download in the App Store), which Apple has recognized for its wonderful design and user interface elements. The Weather Channel also has its own application in the App Store.

With The Weather Channel now being the provider of Apple's Weather application information, it should be interesting to see if weather information will be just a little more accurate on the iPhone now.

Me too. Anything but sucky Yahoo. But this would present a big problem for our only engine for our weather widgets: WidgetWeather. Hopefully not. And the brilliant devs will figure it out by next JB.

Cool! I hadn't noticed that! I was wondering why the weather display was a bit better...I paid for the weather channel max a long time ago! Best app for weather accuracy I know!
