Default Here's Why iOS 8 Isn't the End of Jailbreaking As We Know it

With every major iOS announcement at WWDC each year, the same thing goes through our heads as we watch Apple show us those jaw-dropping features on stage, "Wow! This update is going to be great! I may not even need to jailbreak anymore after this!"

Well, we're here to reassure you that jailbreaking isn't going anywhere, and also to remind you that with every new feature that Apple introduces in iOS, there's a developer out there that can think of a million ways to do it better and/or add more features to it. And that's the reason that jailbreaking isn't going to go anywhere; even if you're saying that statement to yourself.

Like today, in the iOS 8 presentation, we saw the quick reply functionality and it pretty much reminded us of auki. While this tweak is a great reason to jailbreak your device, just because iOS 8 is coming with a similar feature does not mean that jailbreak developers aren't going to come up with better ways to spice it up in iOS 8.

In addition, many of the other new features coming in iOS 8 like recent contacts in the App Switcher, doodling over e-mails before you send them, remotely enabling personal hotspots, widgets in Notification Center, the improved notifications on the Lock Screen, and more can all be improved in many different ways.

It's always our jailbreak community that comes up with ways to improve on iOS, and without a doubt, it's our jailbreak community that inspires a lot of new features in upcoming versions of iOS, so it's fair to say that without the jailbreak community, iOS 8 wouldn't even be as good as it looked on stage today.

So in short, just because you might be telling yourself today that iOS 8 is so nice that you'll never jailbreak again, we're sure we'll probably see you again when an iOS 8 jailbreak is released in the far future!

    Cheers, jailbreakers!

    Pretty much.

I'm still surprised they haven't added the features of MultiIconMover and SwipeSelection alone.

Yup, jailbreaking tweaks it seems is where Apple gets so many of their "New Innovations". You couldn't count on all your fingers and toes all the tweaks that have been copied/adapted to each new iOS release.

Jailbreaking will always be a part of the scene I believe.

We haven't seen all of the features, yet. I am sure they keep some for the iPhone 6 surprise.

Having just got an iPhone 5S as a work phone in addition to my jailbroken iPhone 5, I forgot how bad the stock iOS7 experience is. Simply opening and closing folders/applications is painfully slow!!! The notification banners are huge! So many minor issues that can be easily tweaked with jailbreaks. iOS8 has some nice looking features that are welcome additions, but yeah, jailbreaking will definitely make it even better.

I'm sure apple knows about all our cool tweaks and applications. I wish they'd implement them all so as to actually have to come up with new ideas.

In one of the developer videos after the keynote they say that the new "extensions" capabilities of iOS 8 will be expanded in the future. We may not even have to wait until iOS 9 for that. It's very interesting.

I can not live without JB no matter what apple is doing. As you said JB will always do things in a better way.

It's an odd conundrum: Apple keeps trying to lock out jailbreaks, jailbreak apps and tweaks because they feel it dilutes and/or confuses the user experience, but moreso, because they can't get their 30% cut from selling this stuff through the App Store. Yet, the jailbreak community exists because Apple won't let independent developers IMPROVE the OS experience by providing an extensible OS. So we have this pointless dance that stunts true platform growth for experienced/power users who -- let's face it -- are the core of the jailbreaking community, in the name of protecting the "masses" from something that "doesn't work smoothly."

    It's just stupid.

If Apple would just get smart about it, welcome those who create the jailbreaks by creating extensibility "hooks" for advanced customization, and either merge the Cydia store into the AppStore or give the Cydia store an official "blessing," they could have the best of both worlds! Novice/Average users could continue to use the "stock" iOS experience, while the rest of us could customize Springboard and the rest of the OS and it's functions more to our liking and how WE work instead of how Apple SAYS we should work.

I know it would FEEL to them like they'd be losing control of their operating system, but in reality, by openly accepting this community, they would not only be adding to their creative and coding talent pool, but they would be able to make sure jailbreaks, tweaks, and additional apps are coded properly and are not going to cause problems with other tweaks and apps, as sometimes occurs.

I just don't get it sometimes...

Yeah, sure, we're getting some of that in the form of widgets and apps being able to share data, but it could be so much more.

Apple, many years ago, you told us to "Think Different." We did. We have. We continue to do so. Yet in return, you try to stifle all the improvements we make. Isn't it time for this to end?

I feel like Apple intentionally puts exploits in each version with the hope that it will be jailbroken. That way they can design their new version. I hate how locked down Apple products are without a jailbreak.

Yeah but with the new keyboard sdk the developer of SwipeSelection could easily write it even better for iOS 8.

Don't think auki was the inspiration since bitesms is 100 times better and apple probably needs some kind of consent to do anything like it.
