Default 'MessageHeads' Brings Facebook Chat Heads-like Functionality to Messages in iOS

If you're a fan of Facebook's chat heads and want to bring the feature to your iMessage/SMS experience on your iOS device(s), then you're in luck. A new jailbreak tweak called MessageHeads by iOS developer Ian Burns will bring a similar feature to iMessage and SMS on your iOS device(s).

As shown above, the tweak adds the chat head-like bubbles to your screen whenever you get a new message notification. You can then tap on the chat head to open a preview window of your conversation with that person. If you have a contact picture assigned to that contact, their picture will show, but if not, it will show their first and last initials.

You can reply to the message right from the newly-opened pop-up window, and if you want to close the chat head, all you have to do is drag it to the bottom of the display where the "X" is.

It's worth mentioning that MessageHeads works with both iMessage and SMS. If your messages are via iMessage, they'll show as blue, and if they're SMS messages, they'll show as green, as you would expect. There are also light and dark themes available for the interface.

MessageHeads adds a preferences pane to the Settings application where you can configure a number of options:

    From here, you can:

    • Enable or disable the tweak on demand
    • Enable or disable the tweak on the Lock Screen
    • Enable or disable a side dock for all your conversations
    • Choose where the chat heads will pop up on your screen when you have a new message
    • Enable or disable opening a chat head to the keyboard
    • Configure Activator actions for hiding and showing chat heads
    • Configure Activator actions for quick-composing messages
    • Enable or disable dark mode
    • Enable or disable blur
    • Configure a number of color options for SMS and iMessage

If this is exactly the experience that you've been looking for, then you won't be disappointed by MessageHeads and all the features and customization it brings to the table. The tweak does require iOS 7 to be installed. If you'd like to give it a try, it's available right now in Cydia's BigBoss repository for $2.49.

I wondered the same thing, but seems to work pretty well with Bite. Have to do a little adjusting to make it work properly, but seems to do just fine.
Here is some info that helped me out setting up with Bite.
